So everyone knows that the only people who know more about FUNK music than the original artists themselves are Japanese music enthusiasts. It’s a fact. They know the words, in English, to every song ever written. They party hardy and hold it down proper all while living upside down on the other side of the planet!
The next most prolific group of ethnomusicologists are of course the Germans. If it was pressed on vinyl and contains 1oz of funk it has been purchased by a German, most likely from rare boogie guru and PPU Records head honcho Andrew Morgan.
The third in this trinity of deep diggers is the collective group of Scandinavians who, true to their common national characteristics rock it proper without a bunch of fanfare and hoopla. To see them on the street you would never have a clue that they were the force behind minor miracles such as Godkänt av Mad Mats Records. But it’s true, they know how to work the walls.
It therefore makes sense that a local Norseman and laid back DJ would be jamming out at Fatback and that we would get into an hour long conversation about economic policy theory and history, rather than say, music at the last Fatback. But that’s DC for you!
The result of this chance meeting was that we have a special guest for you this month: Marius Gustavson direct from Norway will be opening things up at the July Fatback.
So get there early and dig on dudes incredible taste in music.
Here’s a little snack.
