Doing it to Death is one of those songs that will be on the soundtrack of the Lifetime made-for-TV movie about your life. The track would be prominently featured in the scene when you are exiting the dance floor with the fine young lass you just met on your arm. The music continues as you escort her out of the club, up the block, and then onto your parents’ basement couch. (Once on said couch, cue Teddy Pendergrass.)
This track gives us another reason to thank the Godfather of Soul who really was the hardest working man in showbusiness. First, he gave us the Celebrity Hot Tub Party, then he gave us years of amazing mustaches, and then he gave Rocky the power to defeat Ivan Drago.
One can only imagine the possibilities had James Brown not passed away in 2006….funky cold fusion, a funky peace between the Koreas, or a funky president.
